Some projects during May-hem

I have been working on things here and there during "May-hem". The last month of school is always a little crazy.
I have been trying to keep my littlest miss occupied and she has wanted to make a Tooth Fairy pillow for a while. I saw a cute monster pillow on Facebook, posted by Erin Schlosser and it was a free tutorial on her blog. I showed it to my daughter and she loved the "robot" tooth fairy pillow. (We like robots around here; my husband works for a robotics company.) She chose fabrics, then she traced the applique parts and cut them out with some guidance from me. Then she sat on my lap and guided the fabric through the machine with a little more guidance from me. She drew the smile on and then I stitched across it. The most amazing thing to me was that she stuffed the legs. It was a bit hard and even I was frustrated doing it, but she stuck it out and did great! After I stitched the body together, she stuffed it and we put a little fabric heart in (like at Build-A Bear) and I stitched it shut. She LOVES it and sleeps on it instead of her regular pillow.

It has a little pocket for her tooth and a quarter from the Tooth Fairy.

I have also been working on quilting the robot quilt. It is going well. The white is done and I am moving on to the yellow. I plan on leaving the pink un-quilted.

I have made some good progress on the laptop bag. I got the pouch mostly figured out other than I either cut the fabric too big or did the math wrong. It was HUGE. But that is an easy fix I think so I have one more test sleeve and a test bag just for sizing purposes and then I can get going on the real deal.

I just had one teacher gift this year since my other 2 kids in school have multiple teachers which, I don't really do. I got my son's teacher an Amazon gift card and made a card and holder for it.

Easter Baskets

Last year I made a really cute and easy Easter Basket for my littlest miss. Since Easter is nearly upon us I am sharing the link to the tutorial again.

You can find it at Sew Lux Fabric and Gifts Blog HERE.

I am making these baskets for my bigger kids this year. They do not have handles, which may make it slightly awkward for the egg hunt, and are on the small side, but I think they will be really nice for them to use these all year on their nightstands or dressers to keep their stuff in. The tutorial is found at The Sometimes Crafter HERE.

March Along: Week 3

This week was hit and miss more than last week. And I have done 0-nada-zilch work on UFOs. I technically made my minutes goal, but did not sew or do something sewing related every day. It was  a busy week. Friday was my only appointment free day.

Sunday 17th - No sewing time
Monday 18th - 45 min Sketching quilt blocks, 2 hours testing quilt blocks

One of my testers. It is very pretty in person. Phone photo coloring is not fabulous!

Tuesday 19th - Made Easter Basket

http://sewlux.blogspot.com/2012/04/easter-basket-tutorial.html

Wednesday 20th - No sewing time. Time? What time?

Thursday 21st - No sewing time.

Friday 22nd - Toddler Tea Towel Apron gift for a party Saturday morning. I would have liked to fancy it up a little but I was stumped. No fabric I had on hand went with it. I did have a brainstorm after I gave it to her, to use the top that gets cut off for a pocket. Next time!

Saturday 23rd - Cleaned and organized sewing area. Ahhhh. So much better!

Crayon coloring folio rounds 1-4

So, I told you all that I was working on creating a crayon/notebook holder for a toddler birthday and still had some tweaking to do. Well, I got it done and it works for the most part. Littlest Miss took the round 3 trial one to church and it kept her occupied for quite a while.
She had a little trouble getting crayons back in those snug pockets. And, the crayon side curls up and looks quite unattractive. So, I just have one or two adjustments to make to the pattern.
1 - to get the crayon area to lay flat
2- Make it easier to get crayons in and out.

I have some ideas, such as make the crayon pockets a little larger (which means the whole thing will have to be larger) and/or insert a piece of cardboard or the like in a pocket behind the crayons. I may also need to use a stiffer interfacing. Anyway, I got one done for the birthday party and gave it to her even though I wasn't entirely happy with the end result. It fit perfectly in the little bag I made though!

See the curling action? :P

Not terribly attractive, but it works.

And of course, today on The Crafting Chicks Blog they posted something similar that would have been great to have a week ago! LOL. I made mine for the larger crayons and smaller notebook, but still... :)
