FNSI results

In spite of multiple interruptions from a certain 3 year old who did not want to stay in bed, I accomplished a fair amount last night during my Friday Night Sew In time. :)

For starters, I cut the infinity scarf I am making for my sister to give to her friend.
A little Prince Charming anyone? :) Her friend likes frogs and I immediately thought of this line. I was lucky enough to find some for a very good price and my sister liked it. I hope to get it stitched up today and into the mail.

The I finished quilting the last 6 squares on the Christmas Table Topper.

I trimmed it up and made the binding and attached it.

That is one UFO complete!  25 left to go. :)

FNSI caught up

I made a pillowcase today for Friday Night Sew In (2 days late). There would have been more, but I found that I had no other yardage that coordinated! Oh well.

Ahem... No FNSI here

Handmade by Heidi

I had planned on making a couple of pillowcases last night for the special edition of Friday Night Sew In, but after attending the church social, we ended up vegging out in front of Star Wars Episode VI. Before we left for the party I did get 3 sets of binding strips cut for the 3 quilts I have quilted, but that is all I got done.
I still plan on making a couple of pillowcases to send to Conkerr Cancer just the same.

There were a lot of cute things made last night, so don't forget to check the link up and see what got made. (I loved the Flames pillowcase!)

A Special FNSI for April

Handmade by Heidi

April is going to have a special Friday Night Sew In, on the 20th,  with Heidi and Bobbi asking us to pitch in and help with a service project of  sorts. They are asking participants to make a pillowcase for Conker Cancer, a group that gives critically ill children a fun pillowcase to brighten their world.

I love making pillowcases, so I am going to try to participate. Will you?
You can read more about it HERE and sign up as well.

Friday Night Sew In

Handmade by Heidi

Instead of finishing up my Supernova cutting, I finished another project. I had started this one early in the week, testing out a template to see if it would work to make a Dresden Plate. It worked! I had cut all the blades/petals(?) but I needed to piece them. By the time I had pieced them all and put the center on I was wiped out. I have been fighting really bad allergies and they are kicking my tail! So I left FNSI early and caught up on some blog reading.
The plan is to make a pillow with this.

I for sure need to practice making circles for applique and the applique itself.  :) I machine appliqued the center onto the plate. I also started with 20 blades, piecing them 2 then 4 then 8, but when I got 4 of the 5 sections together, It looked like adding the last section of four would not have worked. I added it anyway, and had to take off 3 blades, leaving 17. Weird. I assumed there would need to be an even amount. Maybe my seams were off or my blades were cut differently. Oh well. It still works.
I used the Vintage Groove Charm pack and Tumbler Template (both from HERE). I like the colors, though it's not my usual color palette at all. There are some really fun fabrics in that line. There is one that they don't have listed on the website, but I have seen it at the shop and it has words or quotes or something on it. I love it!

FNSI project

I was only able to complete on  block during FNSI last night.
This block is the light blue star block made to donate to  the Cancer fundraiser quilt.
It pretty much took all the time I had last night.
My iron was determined to steam non-stop which caused some fabric stretching and left my block looking puckery. :P Dagnabit!

I also did some sewing earlier in the day and completed the last 2 of my catch-up blocks for the MOTP Layer Cake Quilt along. Yay! I am not thrilled with either of them, but they are done.

FNSI projects

Last night was another Friday Night Sew In and I was able to get 1 table runner done, another table runner almost done, it just needs the topstitching, and a partial tote bag to wrap my sister's family's Christmas gift in. I would have finished it but I ran out of red thread. I just need to make and attach straps and then I can get it in the mail.
The table runners are made with the Easy Table Runner tutorial. They really are fast and easy.

Runner 1 (my fav so far)

Runner 2 ('s'okay) The red fabric has little taupe stars. They look like blurry polka dots in this picture.

There really was not a good way to take a picture of the bag with no handles. It's just solid red so nothing too exciting anyway.

Friday night sew in Bonus rounds! and other stuff

The gals who host Friday Night Sew In added 2 nights for us to help us get those holiday projects under our belts. You can link up here, if you would like to join in. There are prizes! Tonight is one and the 17th is the other.

Also, don't forget there are a couple of great giveaways happening:

& this one ends today at 9pm est:

And last but not least...

...the snowman "costume".

My son was mortified yesterday at school during the morning performance when he realized none of the other kids had "costumes". He came home telling me he was a little embarrassed. (His teacher unknowingly confirmed this when she came up to me last night to tell me she liked his costume but that he was very embarrassed at school.) So I told him for the night performance he could ditch whatever he wanted to except the white shirt. He could even take off the buttons. He chose just to not wear the saggy baggy pants. :) The snowmen/women danced to a song similar to Thriller called Chillin' and the did some of the moves from the Thriller music video. This is him posing one of the moves.

I have to say, (with a note of pride) that he was the only one who looked even remotely like a snowman. The other kids didn't even have hats or scarves let alone buttons. Just mostly white shirts and I think maybe 2 kids had white pants too.
He did great!

Friday Night Sew In Re-cap

My list of to-do's last night was:
  • Make the pieced receiving blanket for the morning baby shower. I thought it would be faster than it would be to do another quilt-as-you go blanket so I chose that option. It actually took longer to make.

  • Make 2 matching burp cloths - I only finished one. I had run out of steam by then.

  • Make the matching diaper/wipes case - Did not make this one because I did not have any fabric pieces left from the receiving blanket big enough to make it without cutting into another blanket, I didn't want to mess with Velcro and I was sooo tired.
  • Bind the orange Nest baby quilt. I got the binding sewn on the back (I am machine binding the whole thing) and the binding clipped to the front to sew down between showers today.
Here is the whole baby gift.
I threw in the box of wipes that was supposed to be in the case as well.

Friday night sew-in recap

I participated in my first Friday Night Sew In last night. I finally finished the Cherry Sweet Road to Ireland top. Those snowball blocks I chose for the border had been plaguing me for weeks! Last night, I had only one border left to make and put on. I got it all put together and it was 1 1/2 inches too short. I had foolishly stretched the border on the opposite side to make it fit so the quilt was all distorted.
Lesson learned.
I unpicked that border and it ended up about the same amount short so I took one more block, sewed it on the top of the right border, trimmed it off, and then used that trimmed off piece to do the same to the other side. It looks okay and I am very grateful to see this top finished. I probably will not do another pieced border. I have to think too much! :)
